How to be a discreet punter in a hotel

When I'm touring, I almost always use hotels for the security and comfort of both of us. I choose big, anonymous hotels where there is generally a lot of footfall and visitors will go unnoticed, OR hotels with an entrance that bypasses reception.

Nevertheless some clients are understandably anxious about visiting escorts in a hotel, so here are some of my best tips to make sure you get to the room quickly and discreetly!

1. Ask the escort for directions on how to get to the lift/stairs. If you feel you might forget, ask her to text you the directions. I always send something like "Come in the main doors of the hotel, the lift and stairs are over to the rear left of the lobby."

2. When you walk into the hotel, don't try to look inconspicuous - it makes you look like you're in Scooby Doo

Just walk straight to where you've been told the lift is, without making eye contact with any staff members.

3. Remember that if you look like you don't know where you're going, it is literally the receptionist's job to ask you if you need help! Just say "Oh, where's the lift please?" and if asked, say you're visiting a friend who's staying here.

4. If you're really nervous, fake being on your mobile at the time you're walking through the lobby. Talk in a normal volume about something dull, like a work issue. Not many receptionists are rude enough to interrupt a phone call!

5. Once you get to the escort's room, knock the door loud enough for her to hear, but not loud enough to wake up everyone else on the floor.

6. If there are cleaners in the corridor, don't make eye contact, just make your way to the room. I can promise you they don't get paid enough to care or even notice what you're doing.

7. Once you've had a nice time and you're ready to leave, remind yourself which way into the corridor you're turning, and say your goodbyes BEFORE the door opens. Do not - and this should go without saying really, but it's happened to me - say loudly as you're stepping out, "Cracking blowjob AnneMarie, thanks!"

One final note - I've had clients ask me "Why do you hide behind the door when you open it?" Simple - because if another guest or a member of staff is walking past and sees me stood in my lingerie letting in a fully clothed man, it's going to look a bit obvious what's happening! Whereas if you're just stood by the door, then you go in the door, from a distance it looks like you've just used your key and entered your own room.

Why I've moved to taking bookings by text

Over the past 3 weeks I've been trialling a new booking system where I'm now accepting bookings via text message.

When I first started I wouldn't take a booking without speaking to the client beforehand. However, that was when I worked from home and was low volume, so answering calls wasn't an issue.

Nowadays though, I only work on tour, and I'm usually pretty busy throughout the day. If I take a 2 hour booking I can find by the end of it I've had anything up to 10 missed calls. So as to be discreet, I won't ever call back a missed call, so I'd just have to hope they would try again and I'd happen to be available. However some guys would try me like 5 times over the course of the day and miss me every time!

So moving to a text-based booking system makes more sense as I can simply reply as soon as I'm available. I have an auto text reply to anyone who texts "Hi are you available" or similar, telling them the information I need to make a booking. Name, time of appointment, length of booking and which service.

Asking which service they require also makes sure people have read my profile and fully understand what services are included.

This new system is working really well for me and I'm feeling less stressed after bookings due to not seeing a whole heap of missed calls on my phone!

But I want to make sure you're English and I'm not texting a pimp or something!

No problem! Just send the booking info by text and add that you'd like to speak on the phone before the booking. I'll then text you back with a good time to call :)

Let's Talk About Penis Size!

...and condom size.

I've recently had a couple of clients who were surprised to learn that their penis was bigger than average size. As one guy said to me "Well it's not like I compare it with my mates down the pub!" Fair comment!

But what they seemed to find really revelatory was finding out that there are different size condoms for different size cocks... and if you wear the wrong one it's going to be uncomfortable and increase the risk of breakage.

This doesn't seem to be widely known in the UK - but it really needs to be.

Of course, when you visit an escort, she will usually have a variety of different sizes and will be able to tell which size to use (although I have to admit there have been occasions when I've tried to use a regular and it just hasn't gone on comfortably and I've had to go up a size. We're not infallible!)

Now when it comes to condoms, it's not so much the length of your penis that's important; it's the girth, or thickness.

How to measure your girth

Measuring is pretty simple - just use a tape measure and wrap it around the thickest part of your cock. For most guys this will be at the base but I've met some guys where it's thicker higher up. You will most likely end up with a measurement somewhere between 140mm to 250mm.

In mathematical terms, this is the circumference of your penis. We will now use this to determine the "nominal width" of the condom that will fit you well.

Since a condom is circular, we can find the width (or diameter) by dividing the circumference by 3.14159 (pi).

So if your girth measurement was 200mm, your width is 63.66mm, which we'll round up to 64mm.

(... I suddenly wondered if my old maths teacher from secondary school would be proud that I had remembered this knowledge without looking it up, or would they be appalled at the usage to which I'm putting it?)

How to find the right condom

OK, so now you know the diameter or width of your cock, you can look for a condom which suits your size.

Most average condoms have a width of around 54mm. So if you are larger or smaller than that, you would definitely benefit from a different size rather than keep buying the standard size.

Here are some of my favourite condom brands and their nominal width.

Mates Conform - 46mm. These are snugger than the average condom but they don't lack length, so you'll still get full coverage.

Mates Naturals - 53mm. These have a lot of room at the top so if you've experienced problems with the head of your cock feeling squashed, try switching to these.

Skyn Non-Latex - 53mm. Although they are technically the same width as Mates Naturals, they feel a bit more roomy and I believe that's to do with them being non-latex.

Mates King Size (sometimes called Ultima) - 55mm at the base, 68mm at the head. A good choice for guys with large helmets.

Skyn Non-Latex Large - 56mm. These are my favourite king size to use.

Skins Extra Large - 57mm

Pasante King Size - 60mm. (I personally don't like these as I find the rolled rubber rim uncomfortable.)

Pasante Super King - 69mm (Again I find these uncomfortable so have ditched them in favour of the below)

My.Size 69mm condoms - I much prefer these to Pasante. They are more expensive but I only need about 10 per year!

Wearing the right size condom increases safety AND comfort!

Using a condom that's too small OR too large will not only feel uncomfortable but also increases the risk of breakage, so it's important to get this right!

"Why do you do this?"

I was speaking to a fellow sex worker this week and she mentioned that a guy had asked her "Why do you do this? You're really pretty, you could do any job?"

As a question, it says more about the guy asking the question than about the person being questioned.

The question presumes that sex work is in some way undesirable, and that nobody would do it if they had other options. This is so far from the reality that it's laughable! I think that it comes from two beliefs.

Sex work involves sex, and women don't enjoy sex, so you must be just doing it for the money and gritting your teeth through every booking. You must be desperate for money or you wouldn't do it.
Guys who buy sex, myself excluded, are a bunch of horrible weirdos and you're putting yourself at risk with every booking.
Well let's get no 1 out of the way! Women enjoy sex - the media position for many years was that women just put up with it in order to have babies and keep a husband, but thankfully things have moved on since then! Most men know that women enjoy sex with the right partner.

Some women (and some men) don't enjoy sex at all, with anyone. The mainstream media tends to promote the myth that men enjoy sex more than women. Myth. I love sex. I not only love receiving pleasure, but I love giving it. This job means I get to do what I enjoy, every day.

Do I enjoy every booking? No, of course not. But even in the most difficult bookings, I know I've made someone's day better, and I take pride in that.

So as for number 2. The "All clients except me are arseholes." Men who pay for sex are as varied as men who pay for petrol. In other words, they are normal. There are some absolutely lovely clients. There are some complete arseholes. And there are a great many who just fall into the middle ground between those poles.

A Little Personal History

When I started sex work, I was on a career track with good progression, and earning about twice the average national salary. I was on track for moving up to a 6-figure salary within 5 years. My job was intellectually stimulating, engaging, and had a clear path to move up. But it was incredibly corporate, and when senior managers started talking about "saving 0.5 FTE through efficiency" it was a massive turn off.

So when you ask me "Why do you do this" you're bringing a massive heap of assumptions to the table. For many of us sex workers, we're doing this because we've made a conscious decision that sex work is the industry that suits us best. Questioning our decision really does say more about you, and your attitudes to sex, than it does about us.

When the touring stops!

I am mainly a touring escort for a number of reasons.

I rent my current living space so I prefer to keep things very discreet here. I will only see clients who I've seen before and I know are sensible and discreet.

This week I decided to go to Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, just north of Birmingham.

So they found an unexploded wartime bomb on my first full day. Travel chaos across the region! The M42 and M6 were both shut, and lots of clients who had booked had to cancel as they simply could not get to me.

Following day? Back to normal. God bless the Highways Agency.

I saw some lovely new customers and some returning customers (you know who you are - swoon) and it's a destination I'll definitely return to.

Why I love being a whore

I love being a whore.

I’m not talking about my love of sex work (although I do love it.) I’m talking about the particular word, “whore”. Or in the Scottish pronunciation, “hooooorrr” – which has a depth of feeling, a juiciness, that I particularly relish.

Although I understand that in the US, meaning has shifted somewhat away from sex work and more to meaning of “a woman who has a lot of sex”, in the UK the meaning of being paid for sex is still the primary one. It also lends itself to idioms like “I’m whoring myself out for X work” from professions unrelated to sex work – typically creative professions such as writing, where one might be expected to nobly sit and create art for art’s sake, rather than being paid a (somehow unethical) wage for a fair day’s work.

The implication, of course, being that when you are being paid to do something you love, you’re not creating your best, or truest work. The minute you accept money, the thinking goes, you immediately lose power, and put it in the hands of the buyer. Thus, if you’re a painter, you can be required to paint some hideous Norman Rockwell-esque happy valley shit, when your little artistic heart yearns to actually be creating scenes of death and misery.

Well, fuck that. Being paid to do work does not make that work somehow artistically (or morally) lesser. On the contrary, I would say that being paid allows you the freedom and space to explore whatever you’re offering for sale and create a truer, more authentic experience.

But! I wanted to talk about the word whore, not the actual experience of sex work.

A History of Whore

A short amount of research will tell you that the word “whore” actually has very ancient roots, in proto Indo-European language. This is a language spoken perhaps by our distant ancestors as homo sapiens, or possibly it’s a language that arose after our diaspora, as a species, from Africa. At any rate, the very root of the word is “ka”, which means “desire”. It’s survived in Gaelic cara, for friend, in Welsh cariad, “sweetheart, darling”, and in various Romance languages as cara, caro, cariad – “dear”, “darling”. It is also the root of the Latin word for matters relating to the heart, cardiac.

From there, the word has gone into Old High German and arrived in the UK as “hoer” or “hore” and was commonly used as a term for an “unchaste” woman or an adulteress (another word I love!)

Shakespeare was fond of it and it’s from his time (16th century) that we see the shift of spelling to add the “w” to the front of the word. That is then further reinforced by references from the Bible (although in the US more modern editions frequently replace the word with “harlot” as being supposedly less offensive.)

Other Words

There are plenty of other words and terms which refer to sex work. “Prostitute” tends to be the “technical” or “legal” term, and thus has a sense of the clinical about it, which I dislike. “Working girl” is a common euphemism in the UK, and whilst I like the informality of it, I dislike the infantilising “girl” part. “Sex Worker” is a common term and I like that it covers a variety of professions, from stripping to actually exchanging sexual intercourse for money, but again it’s quite emotionless and clinical. “Escort” is very commonly used (possibly under the influence of this very website!) but to me feels coy and euphemistic. We’re not being paid to “escort” anyone anywhere – we’re being paid for sexual services. “Brass”, “Tom”, and “Harlot” are all good old British terms, but they are regional and lack the savour of “Whore”.

Of course for the “high end” workers, we can also consider courtesan. I see this used a lot by clients who believe that by paying a lot of money, they are somehow elevating their sex work experience to a level where it’s not sex work. Dream on, dreamers!

Versatility

“Whore” can be a noun, a verb, or even an adjective (“That dress is quite whorey.”) As such, it’s incredibly versatile. I can refer to myself as a whore, say that I’m whoring myself, mention that “whoring pays my bills”, plus I can easily make portmanteau words: My earrings that I only wear on bookings become “whorerings”. My handbag that I take on outcalls is now a “ho-bag”. If I pop out for condoms and bed linen, I’m “whore shopping”. I have a separate set of bedding for clients, which I refer to as my “whoring duvet”.

Plus! I can refer to myself as being “a big old whore” or “Whorey McWhorePants”. I mean can you see that working with “Prostitute”?

Reclamation

For hundreds of years, “whore” has been used to put women in a box, to prevent them from using their bodies for manual labour in a way that men didn’t approve of, but still desperately sought. Now I’m reclaiming that word. I intend to suck the juice out of whore until the juice is gone. I will be a whore, I will whore, and I will do whore things. WHORE.
