BDSM stands for Bondage, Domination (or Discipline), Sadism (or Submission) and Masochism. As such, people who are 'into' BDSM tend to prefer 'harder' play than those who are into 'domination (giving/receiving)'. If you enter into a BDSM situation there is likely to be some pain, punishment, suffering, etc. - which many people enjoy. For them, endorphins released cause an increase in dopamine production, which leads to increased pleasure and sensitivity.
