Pupdate: Fostering a Bagle Hound

Hey everyone

Following on from my previous blog post, I am currently fostering a lovely Bagle Hound dog. She had her vet appointment on Tuesday 7th June, and I was very interested to learn more about her issues. This sweet girl has a yeast skin infection (most likely caused by being caged so much), both of her ears are infected and is also underweight. The vet also confirmed that the dog had been used as a puppy mill, by the condition of her tummy and nipples. So, Nurse Annalise has a treatment plan for this cute pooch, and she is getting better already. It’s also lovely to see this beautiful dog’s confidence growing; she is becoming more curious and was very excited to meet my little hamster. She wanted to sniff and lick him, but she is huge compared to him so I had to keep him inside my closed hands, so that she could only have a little sniff. She also wanted to give him a little nibble to find out what this little fluff ball was about, so I had to be careful that she doesn’t. She is oblivious to her own strength, bless her, and ever so soft, she just loves her cuddles! I’m happy to say that the unpleasant doggy odour has greatly reduced since the dog began her oral medication and medicated shampoo, and as such she is also scratching less, though I am making her wear the Cone of Shame, to prevent her from biting herself. It has certainly been an interesting couple of weeks. We are at the half way point now of this lovely girl’s time with me, and I feel very privileged to be the one who is bringing her back to health, and making her feel affection, to feel wanted and loved. In 16 days she will join her forever family I know I’ve said it before but I will miss her; I guess it was inevitable that we would bond, but I’m sure it won’t take this doggo long to form an emotional attachment to her new mummy and family. Anyway, if you visit me in the next two weeks it’s no longer pongy on my ground floor, and the doggo won’t mind you being in the same room as her, but just don’t approach her as she has trust issues with men due to the abuse she was subjected to by her vile previous owner. I know a lot of you are dog lovers, and those of you who have dogs will understand why I had no choice but to rescue this sweet girl from a miserable existence with people who only saw her as a commodity. And when she became surplus to requirements she was sold just like a lifeless object - her previous owners didn’t even say goodbye. So, it means a lot to me that my friend is so willing to take this dog under wing and into her family; she is a wonderful little girl (I say ‘little’, well big ) and I can’t wait to see her settled enjoying the life of love, security and happiness that she so desperately deserves. Thank you for your understanding while I complete the fostering process. Normal service will resume by early July.

Important information for clients

Those of you who have met me will know that I love doggos. I had a lovely little Parson Russell terrier for 8 years until she sadly passed away two and a half years ago of old age and heart disease. I still miss her terribly, and recently began looking for a dog that I can help. Ten days ago I found a Bagle Hound (Basset Hound x Beagle) who had been used as a puppy mill, was underweight and neglected. I couldn’t leave her where I found her, so I brought her home with me. This poor girl has never known comfort, as a bare outside cage was her home, nor affection - she absolutely loves cuddles. When I gave this sweet girl her first bath she was very afraid, and the water ran filthy, but I think she felt better for it. This doggo bites and scratches herself, so I have been applying a soothing balm which also tastes bitter, to help put her off biting herself. Tomorrow she has the vet for her check up where I hope to learn more about her. Due to being caged most of her life this doggo tends to wee in her bed, but I have two beds for a rotation so that I can machine wash her bedding whenever needed. I don’t tell her off - she doesn’t know any different, I just give her lots of praise and fuss when she goes outside in the garden. Unfortunately, there is a doggo smell on the ground floor of my home, but I air it as much as possible and use odour neutralising products. It’s not my normal for my home to smell of dog, but I’m okay with it while I help to rehabilitate this beautiful soul until she joins her new family in 19 days. I just want to be transparent with you that if you visit me this month (June 22) there will be a dog here, and you may detect an odour in my home. The doggo is very nervous around new people, but not aggressive at all, she is a soppy sweetheart, but if you visit just leave her be. She loves to snooze and never barks. The dog is not allowed upstairs where there is no odour, so during this time I will take you straight upstairs (I’m sure I won’t have any complaints!). I really appreciate your understanding while I’m being a stepping stone to this lovely girl joining her forever family. This is my first time fostering a dog, which I probably won’t do again for a long time. It’s hard for me because I fell in love with her immediately, and I love her so much already, but I know that she will be happy, safe and loved with her new family.
